Reducing the cost
Aug 04 2011 05:31 PM Hi...new to the forum! I am a military spouse who just flew home from Okinawa, Japan to take care of my ill grandmother. She was diagnosed with cancer in December of 2009 and has had nothing but trouble since. The first bout of cancer hit her uterus and vagina. Since the chemo and radiation she has ended up with a perforated bowel and complete loss of her bowel control as well as urinary incontinence. She goes through an average of 28 Depends every day and a half. The cost is becoming quite overwhelming and unfortunately medicare doesn't assist with it. She has tried all of the cheaper brands and none of them have worked for her but the cost is really weighing on us all. Is there any service out there that provides assistance to the elderly who are dealing with these terrible issues? We are in Southern IL if anyone is able to help it would be GREATLY appreciated!!! |

RE: Reducing the cost
Aug 05 2011 09:49 PM Hello MandiNMaw, Going through as many units as you are there may be the need to add a booster to them. A Depend Maximum with a Luvs Size 6 diaper will help most perfectly. The best way to save on the Depend budget is to order online from a well trusted source such as HDIS who happens to offer a discount for using their scheduling plan which ships your product automatically every week, month or however you wish. I know a bit about a perforated bowel as my aunt had this issue. Her salvation after getting used to it was and is a colostomy external drainage unit. It is surgical but in the long term it may be just the ticket to giving a new start. The colostomy will take a lot of the leakage out of the equasion but this procedure must be approved by the doctors, something to concider. All The Best and call upon me here if I can be of assistance, Earl H. |

Re: Reducing the cost
Aug 06 2011 10:13 AM Hi Mandi, I know you are feeling overwhelmed with all of this. You might consider talking one of our representatives at Consumer Services either by using Live Help: Chat Online or Call 1-877-413-3736. The Live Help link is located at the top right corner of your Depend window. They may have a suggestion for a product that might work more efficiently for you or other suggestions. They are very familiar with the entire range of products. You might also check with your state or county Office of Aging and see if they have any suggestions for you. Your grandmother may qualify for Medicaid or other state programs that may help. Good luck and best to your grandmother. JaneF |
