Which tab one do you prefer?

Feb 04 2012 03:12 PM

Hey everyone,
A while ago, I got some protection with tabs, and I was impressed because of the all around protection, but mainly with the leak guards on the legs. I've been using the pull ups for men, but those tend to fill up quickly through the night, and they tend to leak out the back on me, and sometimes the leg cuffs will stretch out (accidentally bought large ones, didn't happen with S/M) bringing more leaks. Never had those problems with the protection with tabs (orange bar on package). Anyways, I'm being my normal indecisive self due to a lack of experience, and I'm thinking of trying some adjustables (red bar on package), I was just wondering what your personal preferences are if you have used them before.

Pro of both:
Unisex-more protection all around
Maximum absorbency
Pros of the protection with tabs
Tabs hold tight
Very absorbent (for me anyways)
Have leak guards on the front, back, and the very secure leg cuffs
Cons of the protection with tabs
Tabs come undone after tossing and turning or if wet
Can only fasten once since tabs are tapes and if taken off, they rip the front
Not as many per bag as with the pull ups for men
Pros (from images and reviews I've read) of the adjustables
Adjustable! Tabs sound as if they can be refastened and taken off
Full coverage
Maximum absorbency
Can also use like a pull up when fastened (unlike protection with tabs)
Questions about the tabs:
Do the legs have the tough and secure leak guard like the protection with tabs?
Does the absorbent stuff (don't know what its called) break up when wet? had this happen with a few of both the tabs and the pull ups.

Experience and stories are appreciated

Thanks for the help, y'all have helped a young guy with bladder weakness

Hi, this_guy.

I’m not a huge fan of Depend products--there’s a lot better out there--but putting brand aside for a moment, I have never found any pull-up that protects as well as a “tabbed garment” or diaper. They don’t have as much coverage as a diaper, they don’t hold as much, and they can’t handle sudden floods as well.

The Adjustable Underwear (which I recently posted a review of on this forum), might technically be able to absorb as much as the diapers, but that’s not really the point. The smaller pad, lack of leak guards, and narrow crotch ensure that any large quantity of urine will find a way out. Not good.

Also, if you’re having a tough time keeping the diaper tabs taped, get some tight-fitting underwear or compression shorts. That should not only keep the tapes in place, but also keep the “fluff” from breaking up.

I have used both styles before. I like the adjustables because they can be re-taped time after time and the briefs can't. With the briefs I have found that the tapes rip the plastic material and once the stickiness is compromised then it is hard to get the tapes to stay put. Hopefully you can get to the duct tape quickly! So the adjustables are what i prefer. But it is true they aren't quite as absorbent as the briefs and the crotch is narrower and has less material. For someone with a small bladder and has quick voids the adjustables are perfectly serviceable. And of course they fit more discreetly. But for larger floods, I'd go with the briefs, even if the tabs can be easily compromised.

I've jumped back and forth between Abenas, Molicares and Tranquilities. I think the Abena M3/M4 is my favorite by far. The leakguards do a phenomenal job for me personally and it fits very well.

I'm confused (my tells me isn't hard to do!)

Seriously, I read in the posts that the tabs are reusable and also that they can only be used once because they tear the plastic away when removed. Are two different products being discussed here?

It's important to me because Depend has recommended that I use their adustable style because I'm fecal incontinent (only). I had intended to buy them when my current supply runs low.

Help!

Hello 35,
If you used that gadget to select a product here on the sight you may not know it suggest protective underwear all day long no matter what your needs are.

In reality you should be purchasing Depend Maximum
The ones with the 6 tapes [tabs]
Your correct that once they are stuck they can be hard to remove without damaging the backsheet.
The key for the best fit is to start with the bottom 2 tapes then the middle 2 and finally the top 2.
fasten all snug but not overtight to avoid gaps and stress rips.
All The Best,
Earl H.

@35way

Welcome to the forum! Two different products are indeed being discussed here, the one that is supposed to have reusable tabs is the adjustable underwear
http://www.depend.com/mens-solutions/products/depend-adjustable-underwear/19183#productdetail

and the one that has tabs that can be used once would be the protection with tabs
http://www.depend.com/mens-solutions/products/depend-maximum-protection/19740#productdetail

hope this helps!

Thanks for your info, Depends is sending me a sample of each so that I can try them.
