Keeping underwear up.
Feb 18 2010 01:07 PM I am a rather large person (about 270 lbs). I wear the depends large/extra large underwear. My problem: because of my body shape, my underwear tends to slip down after a while and winds up around my knees disconcerting to say the least. I have tried a number of solutions such as tape, pins, etc. None of them were satisfactory and some interfere with toilet actions. I discovered a solution. The Holdup Suspender Co. has a side clip smooth suspender that clips onto the underwear on the side and holds them up to my satisfaction. Yet, there is enough flexibility and stretch to not interfere with toilet action. I have no connection with the company other than trying their product. http://www.suspenders.com/undergarment-suspenders.htm I'd be interested hear about other solutions to the hold-up problem. Oh, for travelers they can also furnish clips that are airport security safe.

Hi, Duzer. I have to say that I never considered using suspenders to keep up a diaper/underwear. What I do--and I've heard this from a number of people--is use some snug-fitting underwear. Get a size or two smaller than you might normally wear, or just get the kind that's designed to fit tightly, and it not only holds up your diaper, but keeps the padding from falling apart, holds down any noise, and reduces the bulge. It sure works for me. -RMS

I also have had the problem with my pull-ups sliding down, especially once they become wet and heavy. To correct this problem, I got an elastic shoestring that will go around my 44" + waist and tie it in a bow in front. The top inch of the pull-ups are folded over the shoestring and I have no more problem with my pull-ups sliding down. This also works with tape diapers.

During the day I switch between the Depend pullup for men and Tena pullup for men. Haven't had a problem with either of them, though I would suggest that the pad go higher in both products.

I find that fairly tight briefs work well to keep absorbent underwear in place. Just put on whatever you wear for protection, and pull the underwear over the top. This will do a few things to help - One, it keeps the absorbent product from sagging or slipping down ensuring the fit stays right and the product itself has better leak protection from a snug fit. Two, (in my case) the outer underwear has more area coverage than the absorbent underwear, so you have some minor leakage protection. This helps a LOT if you get a drip or two of leakage, as the underwear absorbs it instead of it spotting on your pants. Third, you can fold the absorbent underwear over the top ridge of the regular underwear and the absorbent product rides no higher than the regular underwear. It feels more like wearing regular underwear as opposed to a high-rise diaper. Very discreet, as I have to work with others in the same office. The tight underwear keeps any lines or bulk from showing when I bend over to get something. No one has noticed yet (thankfully!!!). I can't get away with anything thick here because dress pants and diapers don't mix well - and it's hard to find time to change myself. I would also suggest wearing a fairly snug belt with your pants as this also helps me keep my underwear in the right place. Having it snug to your body also keeps you more aware of how wet you are and you can usually "feel" the right time to change before it's too late. Long story short, a tight pair of briefs or even boxer-briefs will keep your "stuff" in place and give you a tad more confidence. Very, VERY rarely do I leave the home without some sort of underwear holding my diaper in place.

This is going to sound wierd but it works. Pantie hoes or Flexies or shear panties they work.

Abena "bodysuits" from XP Medical work for me. Top looks like a "beater" undershirt and bottom has 3 snaps. Seem to wear quite well; some of mine have survived 50 washings. Certainly easier and less conspicuous than any sort of suspender arrangement.

The problems I have had with wearing underwear over a diaper is it holds the diaper too close to the skin and leads to diaper rash. So what i do when out of the house is use the extra plastic to stick out a bit and use a belt, my shirt just covers up anything that may be showing. The one guy that wears medium size diapers at 270 pounds? I don't know how you do it. I am 5,11 and 217 and need to use large, the tapes just don't place right on smaller diapers

I too have problems keeping the absorbent underwear up but for the opposite reason, i'm too thin and the S/M are just a little big on me (5'8 130lbs). I've seen the body stocking and it just reminded me too much of a onesie like for infants, however Abena makes an excellent 'fixing pant' made of a lycra/cotton blend. They are available in briefs or boxer briefs, are very comfortable, plain white (which makes them double as a nice cover up for the absorbent garment) and they hold down the bulk. Unlike regular underwear these are cut to come up a little higher, like the absorbent underwear do to cover the tops of them. A three pack is just over $20 and the 6 I have have lasted a year, though unless they get damp I dont wash them everytime they are worn (I mean come on, I have a pul l up on under them, how can they be dirty?). Also, where cotton underwear get looser through the day, these stay snug and in place all day long. They are one of my favorite finds.

I too have trouble keeping pull-ups up when they become wet, warm and heavy and I can't get to a place to change right away. It is a very uncomfortable, frustrating situation!! So...I appreciate your suggestions. I don't have trouble keeping them in place when they are dry.

I some times use the adjustable underwear with mixed results, they work ok if your standing most of the time and in public restrooms you can change then with out taking your shoes off and undressing. being barefoot in a public restroom is the last thing i would want to do! They are also great in hot weather. But they do not work well for me when laying down so i stick to the plastic diapers for most things. I do keep some on hand for when i do need them and are the only disposable adjustable underwear i will use.

RE: Keeping underwear up.
May 19 2010 12:06 PM For those wearing adult diapers having problems holding them up when wet or full I recommend wearing the super soft (ace bandage type material) Holdup under-garment suspender that attaches to the diaper with just 2 side clips. Worn under your shirt or blouse these will not irratate your skin and take seconds to release when changing. For men, and regular or plus size women, see these for only 15.95 to 19.95 at http://www.suspenders.com/maternity-suspenders.htm for just the men see all the styles at http://www.suspenders.com/undergarment-suspenders.htm in several styles choices. These suspenders, or the other Holdup suspender styles, work wonders for holding up loose fitting pants for those with Colostomy bags or Ostomy pouces too… I daily wear the companies Sloops Jeans or beltless slacks as I have a transverse colostomy with bag and need a loose fitting comfortable jean or beltless slack worn with suspenders as belts will never work with a colostomy bag.

Jimbo rox mentioned pantyhose which I found out work vey well in keeping a wet diaper up and in place. I found out after the Dr. instructed me to try compression pantyhose for my chronic leg fatigue. You would be amazed at what that does for the leg fatigue and the bonus is keeping up my diaper. If you don't need compression type pantyhose, any cheap brand will work well.

I am large framed 6 ft 4 in slightly overweight male.Due to chronic prostatitis and frequent dribbling (commonly after voiding), I wear guards to work and off work I wear Depends underwear for men size L/XL. I've found that wearing my Hanes "Tighty whiteys" pulled up over the depends underwear works well at not only keeping them up but with my tighty whiteys pulled up in the back prevents the depends from creeping up past my beltline.
