Not doing it right
Feb 02 2012 10:32 PM I recently bought some cloth diapers for overnight use and obviously I am doing something wrong. They either fit my waist ok, but are baggy in the crotch or are right in the crotch and extremely tight at the waist. I have googled this but don't come up with any good diagrams for adults. Any suggestions from you guys? |

Feb 02 2012 11:33 PM Are they the pin on type or pull on. Rectangular or those contour ones? wes |

Feb 03 2012 09:55 AM Inconguy, Washables require continuing trial and error experimentation. Pin closures require different technique than Velcro closures; terrycloth, gauze, flannel and birdseye weaves all have different requirements. Pre-fold and contour diapers require different closure techniques, and, when they shrink, as they all do, still more adjustment will be necessary. By contrast, disposables such as Depends are simpler to use. Good luck and keep us informed. |

Feb 03 2012 12:28 PM I have pin-on types, some that are birdseye, but it seems that all of them need more than one to get the job done. I thought this might be better for overnight use, more comfortable and less leakage, but I am seriously re-thinking that idea. |

Feb 03 2012 03:22 PM Inconguy: I find the cloth ones much better, especially regarding absorbancy and no leaks for nights. Do you have the prefolds? They have both day weight and night weight. The extra bulk and bagginess should mean extra absorbancy and protection. If one diaper doesn't do it then double up. But mine take me all through the night with no problems. If its the bulk, bagginess or sagging after wettting that is troubling you might have to try onesies. But these should not be needed at night time; only during the day as you are active and move about alot. Good luck . Wes |

Feb 03 2012 05:47 PM inconguy, it certainly takes some time and fiddling with layers to get the proper fit and amopunt of absorbancy for each individual, but after you figure it out, it works far better then disposables, give it time. I don't go the pin on route very often, I find a few stuffers positioned inside a pull on works best for me, even one right around my waist like a belt seems to stop the hip leaks I got when I changed to cloth... keep trying, and baby flat cloth diapers work well for inside layering, available at Walmart for not much money... Feb 03 2012 06:24 PM You might consider a four-pin setup for the outer diaper, with two waist pins and two thigh pins. For night use, added absorbency is a must; heavy terrycloth without pins works for me. Granted, enoough layers to assure you uninterrupted sleep and a dry bed in the morning do feel awkward at first, but keep trying. Good luck and keep us informed.
