I have been reading this board for a while and have noticed some things and have some questions. I have been doing some research and have found it that it seems that baby diapers are a legitimate product to use as a liner inside adult incontinence products. Please tell me if I am wrong but to illustrate a point I will use the comments from one of your posts that says that your laps around the diaper aisle would include a lap around the baby aisle for your "boosters that back then would be the Pampers toddler diapers in the white/purple box. " If I recall this particular box goes back to the late 70's when I was a baby or was this when they were hour glass shaped. I also found some interesting things in industry publications from the 90's It seems that disposable baby diapers were being used for adult incontinence. These statistics were taken from Swedish surveys actually done back in the 80’s. At the time it was it was estimated that 28% of all disposable baby diapers and 32% of all disposable feminine hygiene products were purchased to treat adult incontinence. It was said it was hard to get an actual number because eople are mortified to talk to strangers about their incontinence and manufacturers are secretive about their sales. So my question is my observations right and what is that made you decide to use baby diapers for use as liners. I have actually talked to other individuals from caregivers to parents of special needs children, and their consesus and was some of the adult diapers are not absorbent enough and that the baby diaper actually helps with the absorbency. I know for 17 years I have used pampers and luvs as pads for light urinary incontinence.

Hello Delta,
I'm one of those people who had to make do back then also.
When Depend was still a little known product to me and my wetting needs were brushed off by the folks as "to lazy or to slow to the potty" I took the situation into my own hands. Living in the state of Michigan and having that wonderful deposit on cans and bottles I could muster up enough to buy what I needed when added to the payoffs from odd jobs around the neighborhood. I first bought a bag of Depend green diapers in that dark blue bag of the era. These were ok but not exactly the best product for my needs due to the poor fit. I then bought Pampers in the purple box and these didn't fit around me but did cradle and seal my diaper area to a near perfect and leak free fit. The other plus then like today in fact was you would get more product for your money.
When Pampers started to change its package colors I then selected the yellow/gold package which was the next generation to the purple box and from there I went to Huggies and back and forth between those and Luvs depending on which ones were on sale or whichever I would have a coupon for.
As time moved on I also picked up a paper route and this gave me more "biting money" to buy what I needed to be dry comfy and happy.
Fast forwarding to today I still use Huggies, now the Overnites, but these days as boosters daily to make my Depend Maximums last till quitting time at work. The secret is to leave the Huggie inserted as-is and not punctured so when its soaked you simply remove it to leave the almost if not dry maximum to finish the day with.
A short not on disposal was not a issue as I'm the one who was in charge of the weekly trash to the curb. I also helped with the laundry so when a oops in bed happened I'd be sure to be the one in charge of the white clothes which I normally would be anyway.
As a smile from my early days it was a bit of a game to walk into a store and buy my diapers of one kind or another to recieve a funny and occational curious question from the check out lady about who they were for. I never answered that with anything but the words "for family".
If you have any further questions I'd be happy to answer them via my private message or other if needed or requested.
All The Best,
Earl H.

As a after thought and if the internet would have been there back then I might have ordered those Star Diapers that todays young folks have available to help them.

Star diapers are great. They are comfortable, don't leak ever, and I like that they look neither infantile nor institutional. I wish someone would make a pull up with the same goal in mind.

I have a question, having read Earl H's comments and realize that one makes do with what's available and uses what's best for those particular circumstances. And it's good that you have found workable solutions! But why would a check-out lady feel the need to ask who someone is buying diapers for? I mean, why is it anyone's business? Diapers are stocked by stores for people to buy. The store that's selling them is still getting its money so why do cashiers want to know? Now if it were a youngster buying a pack of cigarettes or a six-pack of beer, then questions should be asked. But a package of diapers?

Hello oab2011,
To her it might have been a bit odd for the 13 year old me at the time buying a big box of diapers, lol.
This was way before Goodnites were invented.
Thanks for Asking,
All The Best,
Earl H.

Hello Delta,
At age 13 I bought my own baby diapers and shortly after I did buy the Depend Green's as well. For the most part during this time I used a baby diaper as liner while at home but when going out anywhere except outside to play and at bedtime I wore Depend Green. On the occational long family trips I'd wear both.
To side step here a bit be it the baby diapers alone or the Depend Green's alone or in combanation my pre puberty self would react to the material in a natural fashion.
I still remember the OO7 plan I used to bring the first bag of Depend [in the dark blue bag] home from the department store. A trip there and back on the "city cruiser" was a ride to dry nights and better days.
As the years went on like it is today I began and continue to use a Depend [now maximum] with a baby diaper insert 24/7.

I used to get weird stares with mom buying boxes of Pampers, also from the bag boy. I hated it even more when we ran into people we knew and had diapers in the shopping cart!

oh man, at 15 I had that night mare situation when i bought a bag of adult diapers and ran into one of my close friends and to make matters worse they had todo a price check so there was a long delay, i had to think fast and lied to my friend telling him they where for my grand mother, "she was incontinent so it was only a slight lie" talk about embarrassing!
Now it's not a problem as i don't care who knows and anyone i would call a friend already knows i wear diapers
