depend plastic shell

Oct 17 2011 03:55 AM

I found a pack of depend plastic shell diapers at a local store and boy was I excited, I have not seen them for a long time. I am almost out and wish I could find some more as no cloth diaper has ever held or been as comfy as a plastic shell.

All cloth diapers make me raw and they have always leaked. I only wear a plastic shell.

I don't think they quit making them, they just changed the packaging. They now are called depends: protection with tabs and have an orange label. Its harder to find them in grocery stores now but I've never had any problems at pharmacies.

I will agree that plastic shells can be noisy at times. However, here are only two examples of the functional problems I have found with Cloth-like covers;

1.Cloth-like covers, make it, harder to figure out just how wet you are as the cover doesn't change when you are semi- wet so, it then becomes a guessing game of, how went am I should I change before running to local store or not. Then, if the diaper gets too full the moisture tends to weep through cover itself. At least with plastic shell, I can always tell just how wet it is and change accordingly. Plus, I never experienced weeping through the cover on plastic shell. Don’t get me wrong I have had leakage out edges but never in the center.

2. Cloth-like covers are a nightmare for me when sleeping. I usually sleep in just a diaper and T-shirt. The problem is, if you don't lift yourself to rollover the cloth-like cover tends to drag against bedding causing stress on tapes/tabs which then can away from diaper allowing it to fall off. No, luck with the duck tape trick either it won’t hold to cloth. At least with plastic shell, it will slide when you roll causing less on tapes. All I can say is I’ve never woke up with my plastic shell diaper on other side of bed but I have with cloth-like.

I say is give me function over noise any day.

i agree the plastic moves alot easier in the bed than the cloth backing. i move alot when i sleep so the plastic works better for me. plus they seem to not leak like the cloth do as i move around. but thats just my thoughts.

After my car accident and when the night episodes all began, I was in Depends Max when I slept, as I never knew when "it" was going to happen, and I shared a house with someone. I was always last to bed, with the worry of the noise waking him up, never got noticed, but they were as loud back then as they are now. I bought some on sale, jsut too good a price to pass up, usually in Tena Supers, and they have not changed, still gives me "crinkle butt". With a stuffer, they work surprisingly well for when they are needed, not a premium product for sure, but for half the cost or less, they do O.K. for me. I use cloth at night now, but when I was in the Tena (cloth backed) I never had weeping issues and with a compression pant over top to keep it where it needed to be, had no problems moving around in bed either. Put me in the I will wear either catagory as well, :) Puffy

I ordered a box of Briefs Prevail. Manufactured by First Quality Products, Inc. I ordered small but they turned out to be too small. Do they have large? Also they have a clothlike cover and reattaching tabs. I wish the clothlike cover wasn't there. It's tedious every time I take it off of there. I forgot, who do I make check or money orders out to when I order them?

I haven't had any trouble finding them at stores like Wal-Mart. Having given them a try I definitely agree they're the best product they make, honestly nothing else is even worth buying IMHO.. If not because of reduced leaking (although definitely that's way less of a problem) then because of avoiding "weeping." What's the point of buying a diaper if your pants still wind up reeking of urine? These things don't have that issue which I'm incredibly grateful for because that was starting to drive me crazy.

Also, oddly enough they seem to be less noisy than the Adjustable Underwear which make more of a rustling sound (if not a crinkle). I wasn't really expecting that. I've tried other briefs before but they were normally the crappy store brands. I actually feel more comfortable wearing these things in public when I need to than the AU.
