Making the most out of your appointment
Jan 24 2012 08:07 AM We have presented a list of ideas of what to do to make the most out of your next visit to the doctor. Before you go, make sure to educate yourself as much as possible about your condition. Keep a record of your condition and what symptoms you have to help your doctor have a better understanding. Prepare by rehearsing what you plan to say before you go or have a loved one come along to the appointment with you for support. When you are at the appointment, make sure you have a list of questions prepared so that you can get the answers you need from your doctor. As you are examined, make sure the doctor and nurse has a copy of the list of symptoms and try to keep notes on the answers your doctor is giving to you. Whatever treatments and medications your doctor has suggested, be sure to take them on a regular schedule. Doing this as part of a daily routine can help you get the most benefits. Also, joining a support group or even being a part of this community helps to create that bond with others who are going through the same thing. Making small improvements, such as making changes in your diet, can help with making improvements in your health. It can be as simple as eliminating certain foods with the guidance of a dietician or joining a gym. Whatever changes you decide, it is always best to keep in touch with your doctor to make sure what you are doing is working for you. For more information, please take a look at this article. Do you have any additional tips to help make the most of a doctor's visit? |

RE: Making the most out of your appointment
Jan 24 2012 04:32 PM I have a file on my computer with my medical history, a current list of all my medications, and several special requirements, such as my allergy to NSAIDs. I print this and take it with me to all of my medical appointments. I would like to see an article on this site that details the urological procedures that incontinents should expect, such as urodynamics, cystometrograms, cystoscopic exams, prostate exams, neuro-urology exams, botox injections, neo-bladder and sphincterotomy procedures, etc.. Granted that not everybody will experience everything that urologists can do to them, still, knowing beforehand what the urologist will be doing to you can ease the shock the first time the doctor does it. |
