Caregiver support

Your role as a caregiver may be a rewarding experience, but you may also find it a distressing and frustrating one.

You shouldn’t feel guilty about this; your role is a demanding one.

The important thing to remember is you are not alone. One in 10 people in the UK act as caregivers to their loved ones, so make sure you reach out for the support you need.

The reassuring thing is bladder weakness can often be cured and can always be managed. It is not a disease, but usually a symptom of some other health problem.

So talk to a healthcare professional about it. Don’t try to manage alone.

Because loss of bladder control or "bladder weakness" is such a private and personal issue, people with bladder weakness are often reluctant to talk about it.

So as a caregiver, if you are aware that your loved one is experiencing symptoms, be sensitive to their feelings and their possible unwillingness to discuss or even admit their condition.

But be assured that bladder weakness is very treatable. When talking with your loved one let them know that, with help from their doctor, this problem can often be cured and can always be managed.

It’s all about finding the solution together.
