Living an active lifestyle goes a long way toward good health and a sense of well-being. And summertime is primetime to get out there and enjoy. Sometimes all it takes is a little inspiration and some added confidence. We've got eight smart ideas for exploring your possibilities this summer:
1. Take a Trip
Choose a place you've never been or go back to one of your favorite destinations. USA Today reports that with a bit of a rebound in the economy, 18 percent of us plan to travel more this summer vs. last summer. Not up for a lot of travel? Reading all about a new locale can be just as exciting and informative. Head to your library or favorite bookstore and discover the secrets of your family's homeland or a place you've always meant to look into. Let your locale of interest inspire your cooking and decorating at home.
2. Look Local
Seek out local events like summer music festivals, art fairs and community theater. Check out the events section of your local newspaper or a reliable online source that lists community events in your area. Stay connected and start filling your summer calendar with plenty of local color.
3. Take Action
Take up a good cause that's tied to your interests. Love animals? See if your local animal shelter needs some volunteer help. Into theater? Ask your performing arts center about their volunteer opportunities for greeting or ushering. Or if the upcoming elections are on your mind, back your candidate with more than your vote. Surf online to see how you can get involved. Whatever you do, make it personal. Volunteering is most rewarding when you can help with something near and dear to you.
4. Become a Fan
Take in a sporting event this summer. Maybe it's a road trip to a stadium you've never seen? Or just backing the hometown little leaguers. The excitement of a sporting event is surprisingly contagious. Adopt a team and see how quickly you're a fan!
5. Live the Dream
Have you ever pictured yourself behind the wheel of something red and shiny? Go on and live the dream by renting a sports car for the day. Check your nearest rental agency. Then, hop in, put the top down and just drive. Get creative with your summer pursuits and see where it takes you.
6. Stop and Smell the Roses
Your idea of a garden might be a bed full of perennials that you've nurtured through the years, or a simple potted herb in your kitchen. No matter how your garden grows, there's always room for a little inspiration. Go on a garden club tour and visit some of the master gardens in your area. Or visit a botanical garden site and be prepared to be amazed by the endless varieties. Take your camera along for a pictorial reminder of your adventures.
7. Find Some "You-Time"
Be sure to take time just for yourself this summer. Leave room for unscheduled time to relax, revive and renew. Maybe it's that spa treatment you so deserve. Or a little retail therapy with a good friend? No need to feel guilty for taking time out for yourself. It will pay back in dividends like less stress, a new outlook and other healthy perks.
8. Be Prepared
If you've got incontinence, find a Depend® Brand absorbent product that fits well and meets your needs for absorbency and comfort. Planning ahead also is a good idea. If you plan on hiking, a fanny pack with a couple of extra absorbent products can increase confidence. Know where the bathrooms are ahead of time, and decrease liquids before you go.
