Doctors

do any of you feel like your always looking for a doctor that knows as much as they think they do? I about to go see another GI doc tonight and it seems like a vicious cycle they all say this is what you should do but none of them ever agree. So who do you listen to?

In my own way I agree with you.
I'm fond of putting it this way :

irish1980,

It can be quite frustrating not only seeing doctor after doctor or specialist after specialist but each having something different to say. How do you make a decision? First, I'd like to ask you, how many "second" opinions have you had and what are you not happy with? Second, try making a list of the things they all agreed upon and things they have not agreed upon, it could give you some insight on where to begin.

Of course, it is your right to keeping seeking opinions until you are satisfied with the results. But speaking with your doctor about your concerns is always the best way to make an informed decision.

;)

Irish1980, I agree it can be very frustrating to get different "answers" regarding a medical problem, only to find each one is not only different, but maybe not very accurate either. VikkiZ offers a good idea to try to reconcile the similarities and differences of the various diagnoses and try to build from that.

I think part of the problem is we have formed such high expectations of the medical profession, that we have come to believe every doctor is likely to come to the same conclusion, and be right. However, the reality is that there are aspects of medicine where doctor's are just "trouble shooting" and five doctors may tell you five different things and all five are wrong. It seems to me incontinence is one of those areas in medicine where it can be difficult to determine and/or fix the underlying cause.

Well I will add my 2 cents. I am in the medical profession as a nurse. The concept for all medical is called "rule out" medicine. It is xyz disease until we rule it out. That can be a long frustrating process. When you understand how many things can cause the same symptoms it means not everyone or everything can be diagnosed quickly and easily.
