Hospitals , and diapers
Oct 15 2011 12:18 AM I have both bowel and urinary incontinence, I am going to the hospital for a in-patient surgery, I wear Abena X-plus diapers. I was wondering, Does a nurse change you? and Do you have to bring your own diapers or do they supply them? |

Oct 21 2011 01:13 AM I'm surprised no one has posted on this. Yes - If you need help they will change you. Yes - You should take your own diapers as the ones they provide are not the best most likely. You should be having a pre-admittence interview with the hospital if it's an in-patient operation with a recovery time. There you should inform them of your needs and let them know you would like to use your own diapers. If you aren't having a pre-admittence interview, talk to your doctor. He can give a "Doctor's order" to the hospital about your needs. Really shouldn't be any problems. They have delt with this before. It's not a big deal to them. While I was in the hospital having a knee replacement, I was awoken by the by a night nurse as she was changing me. I was really out of it due to meds and never got a chance to thank her. It meant alot to me not to have to worry about my wetting. You just need to let them know ahead of time. It will make it easier on both you and them. Hope everthing goes well. Stay dry, Wet 24/7 |

RE: Hospitals , and diapers
Dec 04 2011 07:30 PM When you say full on incontinence, I assume you mean bladder and bowel incontinence? I have both bladder and bowel incon issues and wear Abena Extra's by day and Xplus at night. They work really well for my needs. I have also been in the hospital many times before. My advice is to always take your own diapers to the hospital. The ones they will give you are crap. They will cause much embarassment and they are noisy and leak. Abena products are better by a mile. So take them with you. As far as the nurse changing you, they will only if you need help. If you are "mobile", they will let you do it yourself. I have always been mobile and took care of my own needs. If I ever need help though, I know where to find it. They will help you if necessary and generally, the nurse will not think twice about it. Its just their job and they do it with pride. |
