Incontinent teachers...

Sep 28 2011 08:57 PM

I work as an Aide in a middle school and I have mixed incontinence. Although I am not directly in front of a class all the time, I am terrified of some 5th grader noticing my protection. Are there teachers out there that have dealt with this situation? How do you deal? It really troubles me...

Hi stressedgirl and welcome to the forum!

While you are waiting for other members of the community to respond, would you feel at ease if you were able to set up a buddy system with the teacher you are assisting, where he or she could cover for you in case of emergency?

There are a few good tips in the article, "On The Job," which focuses on incontinence in the workplace and how it can present a unique set of challenges.

Would anyone like to share their tips or advice on how you manage incontinence in the workplace?

I used to be a county jailer for 8 years and believe me, worring about inmates and your fellow officers discovering that you wear diapers can be just as stressful and frightening as worrying about being outed by a bunch of teenagers.

Dear gear jammer, How did you deal with that? It worries me daily. Did anyone ever find out and if so how did you handle it? It is such an embarrassing problem and I constantly worry about smell and whether people can tell through my clothes. Any advice will be appreciated.

If odors are a worry than products such as "Nullo" can help. If a wet product causes you stress then simply change often and this stress can be less.
My family members include teachers and the best time according to them for needed "time outs" is during study times or simular activities when your class is involved with minimum supervised projects. To my knowledge none of these family members require diapers but the time "windows" as they called them can be used to change.

Use the right product. Find something that is form-fitting, and if you need to, wear cloth underwear over it. I used to wear the Depend Protective Underwear (they used to fit more tightly) under scrubs and nobody ever noticed.
