Ideas or advice?

Dec 21 2011 09:05 AM

My 14 year old had been having some problems with leaking a bit of urine here and there for the last week or so. The other night she experienced total loss of bladder control. She can't feel when she needs to go at all and seems to be unable to hold anything at all in. She's been going to the restroom frequently, but still having a lot of accidents and is contantly leaking. The doctor says he does not know what would cause this in someone her age and to wait a while and see if it gets better on it own. His only advice was to push fluids. We bought my daughter some diapers yesterday. She is really small and they aren't containing everything when she goes. She is frustrated and humiliated. I am worried and just want to be able to help her as much as possible. Does anyone have any advice for me on what might be wrong or how to handle this?

Hi concerned_mama,

Have you considered seeking a second opinion or making another appointment with your daughters physician to speak more about it? It is very important to rule out any underlying medical conditions that could be causing this sudden onset of symptoms. How long has it been since the doctor suggested pushing fluids? Have the symptoms worsened or gotten better?
