Diapers in the hospital

I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with wearing diapers to the hospital. Despite needing diapers for many years I have never had a long term hospital stay in that time. I have an upcoming surgery that will leave me hospitalized for at least 3 days. I'm not sure how exactly I should bring it up at the hospital and I have several questions about the actual experience.

1. Is it best to bring my own supply of diapers? I usually wear Abena's at night as they offer far better protection at night. I'm not sure if the hospital uses quality diapers, but I'm guessing not.

2. Will they let you change yourself? Providing that I'm not physically incapable after the surgery, I would much prefer to change my own diapers and it would be less embarassing.

3. Any other tips or advice?
