Did you know....?
According to the National Associaton of Continence, urinary incontinence affects 200 million people around the world. In spite of those numbers, unfortunately, it’s still a stigmatized, under-reported, under-diagnosed and under-treated condition.
Here are a few interesting statistics:
• One in four women over 18 experience some involuntarily urine leakage
• One in three men between the ages of 30 and 70 have experienced bladder control issues at some point in their lives.
• Only one in eight Americans with bladder control issues have been diagnosed and know what causes their condition.
• Only two-thirds of people who experience loss of bladder control use any form of treatment or product to manage their incontinence.
I don’t know about you, though I found these statistics surprising, simply because urinary incontinence is so rarely discussed. Since it occurs in such a large percentage of the population, odds are you know several people who share your condition.
What do you think? Have you shared your condition with others? How long did it take you to see a medical professional and start using protective products?
